My favorite piece from the summer, a dual-language feature story on Alexander Canario, a hot prospect in the Chicago Cubs organization.

I pitched this story to my editor as a feature that could be read in both English for Tennessee Smokies, Cubs and English-speaking baseball fans in general and Spanish for family, friends and fans of Canario in his native Dominican Republic.

This story challenged me like none had before, as it took more than just word-for-word translation to tell his story. It also allowed me to take a unique angle of Canario’s love of salsa music, a love I share and that we connected on in our conversations.
