Best Clips from The Oracle

I’ve included two of my favorite articles in a number of categories: features/storytelling, event coverage, investigative news and gamers. Click or tap on the photos to read the full piece. Each clip has a bit of background context under it.

Features/Storytelling

A feature on USF's mascot, Rocky the Bull. This piece lined up with Rocky's birthday, and I wanted to highlight how the mascot has evolved with USF Athletics throughout its history.
USF Coed Cheer won back-to-back national titles and the angle I took for this piece was to put into perspective the dedication it takes for cheer to reach and stay at the top.

Investigative/Research-Heavy Work

I dove deep into the finances of the most recent FBS on-campus stadiums to see what avenues USF might take to fund theirs. I never expected to be reading PDFs of meeting minutes from a decade ago, but I couldn't leave any stone unturned for this story.

Event Coverage

This USF Coaches Caravan event was essentially a pep rally for USF donors, I looked to tell a story of positivity around the Athletics program at the event.
This event was the groundbreaking for the USF football indoor practice facility, but the story quickly derailed as speculation of an on-campus stadium grabbed attention.

Gamers

USF men's basketball struggled in the one season I covered the team. One of their few wins was on a dramatic, late three-pointer. I'm proud of the little bit of personality I got in quotes from the player who hit the game-winner.
I had the privilege of covering USF women's soccer for two seasons and saw two conference championships. This OT win over ECU was absurd in the late stages of regulation, and I made sure to describe that in this gamer.
